special response teamSelect members of patrol form the Special Response Team. SRT members have additional equipment and training for high-risk incidents. SRT is typically used for law enforcement functions that are out of the ordinary and pose a high risk to the public or law enforcement, but has also been used for disaster relief after extreme weather events.

sheriff dive team1sheriff dive team2Members of patrol are the backbone of the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.  The Sheriff maintains three boats and dive equipment for six search and recovery divers.  The Dive Team is activated about five times a year on average for missions, typically involving the search for and recovery of bodies, vehicles and evidence.  Members of the dive team (who double as boat pilots) may also be used in search and rescue for lost hunters in flooded timber, evacuation of citizens in times of flooding and other water-related emergencies.

auxiliary unitThe White County Sheriff's Auxiliary Unit consists of deputies trained at or above the Auxiliary/Part-Time 2 level. White County is very fortunate to have a group of ten dedicated people in our Auxiliary Deputy program. Our Auxiliary Deputies are highly trained and receive no pay for their many hours of service. In 2018, our Auxiliary Deputies donated and volunteered 985 hours of their time to the Sheriff's Office. Auxiliary deputies have full law enforcement authority and perform a variety of functions for the White County Sheriff's Department such as:

  • Prisoner transports and extraditions
  • Patrolling with or under the supervision of full-time deputies
  • Serving as Bailiffs in the various courts
  • Providing security, crowd control, and similar functions at many public events
  • Many other duties related to all aspects of the Sheriff’s Office responsibilities

It would be impossible for the Sheriff’s Office to satisfactorily and efficiently perform all the duties and provide all the services it does without our Auxiliary Deputies. They are an extremely valuable part of the team.
