Our Sheriff Print

On November 7, 2006 Sheriff Ricky Shourd fulfilled a lifelong dream by being overwhelmingly elected over the incumbent sheriff and an independent candidate.  He officially took office on January 1, 2007. He was re-elected in 2008 and again in 2010.  Before serving as sheriff, he served in the Searcy Police Department from 1978 until 2006.  He was a patrol officer, a detective in the Criminal Investigations Division, and an undercover narcotics investigator.  He served as a supervisor in all three of these areas as well.

Under his administration, the Sheriff's Office began a new Domestic Violence unit.  He also assigned and trained detectives to investigate and arrest sexual predators who prey on children over the internet, leading to many arrests and convictions.  His office has set record numbers for drug arrests, meth lab busts, and seizure of large drug shipments in White County.
